Your Excellency, Authorities,

Family and Friends of the Mongui Maduro Foundation

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you today in Rooi Catootje to help me, in the company of my Board, celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Mongui Maduro Foundation.

Today’s celebration consists of a number of different events.

The first of these events is the affixing of a mezuzah at the front door of our Library. Our Landhuis Rooi Catoootje has, of course, been in Jewish hands and has been a Jewish home for many years, and it now houses our Island’s largest collection of Judaica. Many visitors have asked us how come there is not a mezuzah at the entrance, as behooves a Jewish home and building. The truth of the matter is that there always used to be one, but during one of the many restorations and repairs, the mezuzah was removed and never put back.

We therefore want to start our celebration today by asking Rabbi Gerry Zelermyer to affix a new mezuzah at the entrance. Rabbi, may I now ask you to come forward.

Thank you very much, Rabbi.
